Nongpoh, Jul 2: Jirang MLA, Sosthenes Sohtun is of the opinion that every positive case of Covid-19 in the border areas of Assam should be followed by extensive contact tracing in Meghalaya.
Justifying this today, Sohtun pointed out that the residents of villages in the border areas between the two states, more often than not, share market places and live in close proximity to each other.
“If anyone tests positive for Covid-19 in the border areas of Assam, there should also be contact tracing in Meghalaya,” Sohtun said today.
With the rise of Covid-19 cases in Assam, Sohtun has urged the residents of his constituency not to panic and to follow the guidelines and advisories of the government to contain and prevent the spread of Covid-19.
It may be noted that the lockdown imposed by the Assam government in Guwahati to control the spread of Covid-19, has been replicated by the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi district, Rosette M Kurbah in some border villages in Ri Bhoi near the interstate boundary. This has been done as a preventive measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19 into villages on the Meghalaya side of the border.
Moreover, Sohtun also urged the Dorbar Shnongs of the border villages to play their role in helping the people follow the instructions and preventive measures of the government.
