The Khliehriat circle of the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) met with the site engineer from Purbanchal Buildtech Pvt Ltd, which is responsible for the ongoing National Highway construction in the Khliehriat region of East Jaiñtia Hills.
The JNC felt compelled to meet the official due to rising concerns regarding dust pollution caused by the construction, which is adversely affecting commuters, students and residents.
Previously, the JNC had submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, urging the relevant department to ensure regular watering of the road during construction to alleviate the dust issue. Following this, an order was reportedly issued to the contractors to implement dust control measures. However, it was discovered that the contractor had not adhered to the DC’s instructions.
In light of this, the JNC met with the site engineer to demand prompt action. After the meeting, the engineer verbally committed to watering the road twice daily moving forward.
