The tenth District Level Inter-School Athletic Meet kicked off today at Rowell Lyngdoh Stadium in Mawlangwir.
A total of 23 schools with around 600 athletes will be competing in the three days track and field events showcasing their athletic talents and celebrating sportsmanship.
District Sports Officer, Damang Syngkon extended best wishes to all the athletes and encouraged them to compete with the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship and camaraderie. “Learn to win with humility, learn to accept your losses, learn to grow from them and most importantly learn to be discipline” he added.
He said the event provides a platform to all the young talented school athletes and participants to showcase their talents in athletic sporting capabilities.
The track and field events comprises of 60 metres, 100 meters, 200 meters, 300 metres, 400 meters, 600 metres, 800 metres, 1500 metres, 2000 metres, 3000 metres, Medley Relay races, long jump, high jump, shot put, discuss throw, Javelin throw andHexathlon (Six events- 100 Metre, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, Javelin Throw and 1000Metres).
Others who were present in the opening ceremony of the event include invitees, presidents, secretaries and members of the sporting associations as well as principals, teachers, and students from different schools.
