The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Khasi Inheritance of Property Bill, 2021 was introduced in the KHADC that aims to enable sons to also share in the inheritance of ancestral property.
KHADC chief executive member, Titossarwell Chyne placed the bill on the first day of the three-day reassembled autumn session which began today.
Discussion on the bill will take place on November 10. The objective of the bill is to streamline the distribution of parental property among siblings both male and female.
Chyne however said that it is not mandatory that all the children will get a share on the parental property and that the provision would let parents decide their will.
Thirdly, the bill would prevent a sibling from getting parental property, if they marry a non-Khasi and adopt the spouse’s customs and culture.
