The Khasi Students Union (KSU) paid a visit to the infiltration checkgate at Byrnihat today after scores of supposed illegal migrants were detected by the pressure group over the weekend.
KSU Umsning unit president Lester Nongbet led a delegation to visit the checkgate. Lack of manpower is the principal cause for the inability to stop all the illegal migrants, a source said, and the officials are also short of facilities and vehicles to enable them to do their job properly.
The officials also denied the allegation made by the illegal immigrants on Saturday that they paid money at the checkgate to be let through without documents.
“If the government wants to prevent influx, facilities should be provided to the staff at the infiltration checkgate so that they can tackle any illegal immigrants entering Meghalaya,” Nongbet said.
