An Indian Forest Service officer allegedly died by suicide in Shillong today.
Ngahanshang Luikham (50) of the 2003 batch was posted as Conservator of Forest with the Meghalaya government.
Police said the incident took place around 7.30am. They found him hanging at his residence near Lady Keane College, Shillong.
His body was taken to the civil hospital for post-mortem examination and later was handed over to relatives, said police.
“As Chief Conservator of Forest, he served the State of Meghalaya with utmost dedication and sincerity. His untimely demise is a loss not only to his family but to the entire department of Forest and environment. May Almighty grant him eternal peace,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wrote on X.
