Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has criticised the Voice of the People Party (VPP) on the issue of corruption in the state and challenged the party to file an FIR, if any.
Speaking at a public meeting held at Khliehriat West today to drum support for NPP Lok Sabha candidate, Ampareen Lyngdoh, he said the allegations against the NPP-led MDA government for corruption is a gimmick to garner votes, which people should not fall trap to.
“They speak only about corruption. If they find us corrupt why don’t they file an FIR? They took up the reservation policy issue which is similar to disturbing a bee hive and opposed the use of Hindi language in the assembly when it is extensively used in Parliament,” he quipped.
He was critical that all VPP meetings were held in market places and said, “They (VPP) know that if they hold meetings in playgrounds no one will attend.”
Dhar stated that the NPP is the only party that can bring development from the centre to the state.
The MP candidate on the other hand said, “I will enter the Parliament through a small window because the door is already an entry for big giants like the BJP and the Congress, to raise issues concerning the state and for the upliftment of the jaitbynriew.”
Lyngdoh said that her party is progressive and open-minded for choosing a woman to contest the MP and hoped that with the introduction of the women’s reservation bill that earmarked 33 per cent reservation for women across the lower house and State Legislative Assemblies, 2028 will see changes.
She further called on the United Democratic Party (UDP) to lend support to her party being a coalition in the MDA and highlighted development works done in Khliehriat.
Sutnga Saipung MLA, Santa Mary Shylla said, “If I emerged victorious by defeating sitting MP Vincent Pala during the assembly elections, there is no doubt that Ampareen will win too.”
