The famous Mawjymbuin cave has witnessed hordes of tourists and pilgrims across the country. However concerns have arisen regarding the environmental impact and tourist behaviour by the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) today.
According to the members the HYC Mawphlang-Mawsynram zone littering has been observed inside the cave.
Following a visit today, zonal president Lodestar Syiemlieh said it supports the decision taken by the Mawsynram dorbar to disallow pilgrimage to the cave.
Located in Mawsynram, around 60 kms away from Shillong, the cave not only attracts tourists, but pilgrims across the country to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva as part of the Kanwar Yatra or Bol Bam Yatra celebration.
However, the dorbar shnong recently decided to disallow the cave to become a place of worship for any group and said that the place is a designated tourist attraction rather than a place of worship.
