The Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) has accused the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) of adopting anti-tribal/anti-local policies in creating job opportunities.
In a letter to the NEIGRIHMS Director the pressure group has given ten days times for the institute to take decisions on the six demands raised and threatened to put the administrative building of the institute under lock and key.
The first demand raised by the HYC is to recall the decision to recruit nursing officers through Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET) so that local youth get an opportunity to get employment in the institute.
The pressure group said that the recruitment for various posts of staffs/employees should be conducted by NEIGRIHMS and not by any outside agency and the recruitment process should be conducted within Meghalaya.
Another demand is appointment of outsourcing agency (s) from amongst the qualified local agencies and that all the contractual or casual jobs should be specifically given to indigenous local qualified candidates.
Asking NEIGRIHMS to implement a one-time absorption policy to absorb all nurses who have been employed on contractual basis for a considerable period of time in the institute, the HYC also demanded that jobs under Group B and C categories, there should be 80 per cent reservation for local indigenous youth of the state.
