The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) today felicitated Lorenza Songthiang, who recently won a bronze medal at the Pankration World Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Pankration is akin to modern mixed martial arts, though the name goes back to Ancient Greece.
The HYC, through its general secretary Roy Kupar Synrem, handed over a memento with a token cash award to Songthiang, who was accompanied by her family members.
The organisation hoped to encourage Songthiang to continue to work hard to garner further success in her chosen field.
Synrem, meanwhile, described the Meghalaya Sports Policy as a “non-starter” and claimed that it exists only on paper and has not been implemented. He criticised how much young athletes have to run around for sponsors just to take part in national and international events.
