The education cell of the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and Education Minister calling for more Common University Entrance Test (CUET) centres in the state.
Although Meghalaya has received an exemption from the application of CUET in the state’s higher education institutions, this does not apply to Meghalaya students who want to pursue their studies outside the state.
As a result, students have to travel to Guwahati to sit the CUET exams.
“This non-availability of a CUET centre has put the students in the state in distress and hardship” as they have to bear the cost of travelling to Guwahati for the test, the HYC education secretary Enlang Sawian said in a release.
