The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has directed the Superintendent of Police of Ri-Bhoi District to submit a report within 20 days on the death of Hudderfield Rymbui during the Cherry Blossom Festival.
Rymbui, who was riding a bike, was allegedly struck by a police escort vehicle on November 15 near the ICAR office at Umroi.
The MHRC issued the notice to the Superintendent of Police of Ri-Bhoi District on November 21based on a complaint lodged by Joplin Scott Shylla, president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress.
Umiam police have seized the escort vehicle allegedly involved in the incident and statements have also been recorded in connection with the case.
Rymbui’s death has sparked widespread outrage against the VIP culture in the State.
