Shillong, Oct 22: The outlawed Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has apparently taken offence to comments by the Director General of Police, Idashisha Nongrang, effectively calling her a traitor to the Khasi people.
On Tuesday the DGP said that the state police would not allow the HNLC to throw its weight about in the state. This came a couple of days after the militant group took responsibility for planting an IED outside the house of a former minister in Umsning; the weapon was safely disposed of by police.
The HNLC release reused tired old arguments against the inclusion of Khasi-Jaintia Hills and its people in India.
“The HNLC must realise that unless there is a negotiated settlement within the framework of our system and our country, it will not work,” Nongrang had said yesterday.
