The Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNCL) has claimed that the arrest of the senior leader of the HNYF was on false charges and the other was a police informer.
“This is an old, cheap tactic employed by the police when they fail to find any leads and resort to random arrests. Tarson was only involved in the peace talks and is neither a cadre nor a supporter of the HNLC. He was simply accompanying Bah Sadon, the interlocutor in the peace talks,” HNLC general secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in an email statement today.
Tarson Lymba, the disciplinary secretary of the Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) and Ebakordor Nongpluh were arrested by police last night for their alleged involvement in the IED blast at Sweeper’s Colony here on March 9.
“If the peacemakers or interlocutors are harassed and arrested by the police force, who among the stakeholders will trust the system or the government when the HNLC comes back for peace talks? It is evident that the government has framed and killed Bah Cheris, the messenger,” he said.
Stating that the HNLC is not against peace, Nongtraw said that peace cannot be built on inequity, oppression, discrimination, unlawfulness, or treachery because there is no peace structured on injustice, betrayal, prejudice, illegality, or tyranny.
He blamed the centre for consistently violating treaties and broken agreements in every princely state and that the politicians of Meghalaya are functioning as agents and puppets for the Indian government.
The HNLC further accused the police of being involved in fake encounters and the mutilation of its members. “You killed Bah Cheris, kidnapped Sibsing Syiem, forced our leader Wickliff Syiem into exile, jailed, and tortured every Hynñiewtrep leaders that you don’t like. You may think we are afraid and that we will run away from you, but NO, we will run TO YOU,” he warned.
