Toll rates in National Highways and Expressways in Meghalaya are set to go up from next month.
According to reports, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is likely to increase the toll rates all over the country from April 1.
Reports said that the toll rates for cars and light vehicles will go up by five per cent and for other heavy vehicles it is likely to go up by up to 10 per cent.
Meghalaya has four toll plazas where the toll is collected. These are Pahammawlein toll plaza in Ri-Bhoi, Diengpasoh toll plaza in East Khasi Hills, Ialong Pasyih toll plaza in West Jaintia Hills and Lumshnong toll plaza in East Jaintia Hills.
If the toll rates are hiked, people passing through these toll plazas will have to pay more starting next month.
There are concerns that the hike of toll rates would cause a chain reaction as it would lead to a hike in freight rates of all goods, including essential commodities.
As per the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, the fee rates are to be revised every year with effect from 1st April.
