In an effort to create a market for the variety of agricultural produce of Ri-Bhoi, the Hill Farmers Union (HFU) organised a common market for farmers in the Sonidan area of the district today.
Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh attended the programme, with Fisheries Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare also in attendance.
The day-long event saw happy farmers enjoy the opportunity to display their agricultural produce for the visitors to the market.
Lyngdoh promised that at least one agriculture office will be set up in the Sonidan area, as it is far from the district headquarters of Nongpoh, to make things easier for the farmers of the area. He also gave assurances to stop middlemen from fleecing farmers, among other matters.
