Cabinet minister AL Hek said that he is ready to venture into national-level politics if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chooses him as its candidate for next year’s Lok Sabha election.
The Pynthorumkhrah MLA said that he will abide by whatever decision the national leaders of the party make; they will choose a candidate after a thorough survey.
Hek is one of only two BJP legislators in the Meghalaya Assembly after the saffron party underperformed at this year’s state election.
He acknowledged that the BJP did not perform well but politics in Meghalaya is different since people vote based on individuals not according to party. That is a familiar refrain in the state but the BJP still used all its political might with a massive advertising campaign and star speakers visiting the state to drum up support but the party was still found wanting.
“BJP is an organised party with all mandals set up and we don’t work only before elections,” he added.
