Five districts will be under a red alert – North Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, East Khasi Hills and Eastern West Khasi Hills. All the other districts will be under brown alert (one level down from red).
Members of the public, especially fishermen, tourists and drivers have been told to exercise caution.
In the next day there is a low to moderate risk of flash floods in a few watersheds and neighbourhoods of East Garo Hills, East Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills, West Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
West Khasi Hills and Eastern West Khasi Hills will be under red alert on Friday also. East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills and East Khasi Hills will be under brown alert, while the rest of the state will be downgraded to yellow alert. However, weather forecasts are fluid and the IMD may change its advice when it issues a new update tomorrow.
