In light of the higher than average temperatures expected in the next few days, the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills has issued instructions limiting school hours and activities up to May 1.
No school should organise classes between 11am and 3pm. Evening schools are allowed to function normally.
All classes of nursery schools and lower primary schools in the district shall be suspended by 10:30am on April 29 and shall remain closed on April 30 and May 1.
Upper primary schools, secondary schools and higher secondary schools should conduct classes anytime between 6:30am to 10:30am, as per the decision of the school management authorities. However, the school management can close the schools during this period, if they feel the need to, with government schools to intimate the concerned official of the Education Department.
The mop-up exercise under the National Deworming Day 2024 for lower primary schools shall be undertaken either on April 29 or May 2. The decision in this regard shall be taken up by the concerned headmaster/principal of the schools.
Schools are instructed not to organise any outdoor activities/sports during these days. No morning assembly shall be conducted during this period up to May 1.
Students should be encouraged to use caps or umbrellas while coming to and going from schools. School authorities shall ensure that all students stay hydrated by drinking water regularly.
Students should be encouraged to bring a water bottle with them. Provision of ORS/lemon water, etc shall be made available in case some students face dehydration. In case of severe dehydration, the student should be immediately taken to the nearest health facility.
The order does not apply to coaching classes, extra classes conducted by the schools, skill training institutes and higher educational institutes. Schools also have leeway to change the timings of the schedule or close their institute if they feel the need to. Government schools must intimate the concerned official in the Education Department when doing so.
