The Ka Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep has formed a core committee in readiness for when (or if) the headmen body is invited by the state government when it meets various stakeholders on the roster system.
The government plans to hold such a meeting this week with representatives of civil society organisations, NGOs, church leaders, locality heads and others.
The committee consists of 11 members led by Synjuk secretary RL Blah. Some 40 traditional headmen from urban and suburban neighbourhoods met today to discuss the matter.
On the roster system and job reservation policy, Blah said that, while indigenous people would always make use of quotas if available, “the sky is the limit” for the youth of today as young people are performing very well in schools and colleges and they should have a competitive spirit to show the world that they can compete with the people of mainland India.
The core committee appointed today has yet to be able to discuss the subject at hand and will prefer to wait to see the presentation the government has prepared on the issue, Blah stated. Even if the government does not invite the Synjuk for the meeting, it is determined to meet the government regardless.
