The Meghalaya High Court has directed that the departmental proceedings by the Police Department against tainted MPS officer Gabriel Ïangrai should be completed by March 31, 2025.
While disposing the PIL filed on the matter, the division bench of Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh today expressed its satisfaction with the departmental proceedings initiated by the Police Department against Ïangrai.
As per the information provided by Advocate General Amit Kumar before the court, 41 witnesses out of 43 have been examined in connection with the alleged irregularities in the procurement and alleged misuse of 29 Police Department’s vehicles by Ïangrai.
Stating that since the chargesheet in the criminal cases has been filed against Ïangrai, and legal process has been taken by the department “as desired by the court”, the division bench said that “this matter does not need any further prodding by the court.”
While disposing of the PIL, the High Court said that any person who felt aggrieved hereafter is at liberty to approach the court of law for remedy.
