Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar today urged citizens to contribute generously towards the welfare of serving as well as retired soldiers.
Paying tributes to the sacrifices of the forces on Armed Forces Flag Day, Vijayashankar acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the armed forces to the security and integrity of the nation.
As a gesture of appreciation the Governor made a personal contribution of Rs 25,000 which was presented to Col. G.K. Rai (Retd.), Director of the Sainik Welfare Board, Meghalaya for selfless service and his commitment to the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.
The Governor lauded the Armed Forces Flag Day as a significant occasion to express solidarity with the soldiers, veterans, and their families and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that honour and assist the armed forces community in Meghalaya and beyond.
The Armed Forces Flag Day is observed annually on December 7 to honour the martyrs and veterans and to support their families, creating a sense of national pride and unity.
