Governor Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar has assured support to the State Sustainable Development Council (SDC) to create a resilient and sustainable Meghalaya.
During a meeting with SDC Chairman Hector Marwein at the Raj Bhavan today, the Governor emphasised the importance of preserving the State’s rich natural resources while ensuring balanced economic growth for future generations.
A press statement from the Raj Bhavan said Marwein briefed the Governor on the ongoing initiatives and future plans of the council aimed at promoting sustainable development in Meghalaya.
The discussion was mainly focused on environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, and the implementation of sustainable practices in sectors such as agriculture, energy, and resource management.
The Governor commended Marwein for his leadership and dedication to advancing sustainable development goals in the State.
Meanwhile, the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, Golden Temple Amritsar and Sirdar of Saipung Sirdarship paid courtesy visit to the Governor.
Gurudwara committee led by Bhagwant Singh shared insights on the cultural and spiritual significance of the Golden Temple as a centre of faith and service.
Singh discussed various issues related to the Sikh community and highlighted the efforts of the committee in promoting interfaith harmony and humanitarian services across the country.
The Governor appreciated the contribution of the committee in fostering unity and peace and praised its ongoing initiatives in supporting community welfare.
In a separate meeting, Sirdar of Saipung Zosiama Thianglai discussed matters concerning the welfare and development of the Saipung Sirdarship. He highlighted the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the people of Saipung and sought the Governor’s guidance on various issues pertaining to the region’s socio-economic growth.
The Governor assured him of the Raj Bhavan’s continued support in addressing their developmental concerns.
