Governor Satya Pal Malik visited the Tibetan Buddhist Monastery at Upper Lumparing here today wherein he praised the refugee community for its humanitarian work during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Malik was welcomed by the Tibetan Settlement Officer Pema Dhondup and Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile MP Tsering Dolma, among others.
Amid cultural shows presented by Tibetan school children and adults, Malik praised the Tibetans for their humanitarian work, such as distributing rations to the vulnerable and needy people and also in contributing to the Chief Minister’s fund during the unprecedented challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Governor recounted the Dalai Lama’s visit to the same monastery when he came to Shillong in 2014 when he advised the monastery to establish a cultural learning centre.
Malik said that the objective of such a cultural centre would be to impart the ancient Nalanda tradition of warmheartedness, compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, contentment, self-discipline and ahimsa and he hoped that the centre will benefit everyone who is interested in learning the psychology and scientific aspect of Nalanda tradition in order to create a compassionate and peaceful society.
