Shillong, Apr 18: Chairman of the Green Tech Foundation (GTF) H Bansiewdor Nonglang, who was on fast over the Lumpongdeng Island issue, was admitted to Woodland Hospital today evening.
Yesterday, Nonglang agreed to be shifted to Civil Hospital, Shillong after his health deteriorated on the ninth day of his indefinite hunger strike.
At the Civil Hospital, Nonglang was receiving IV drips for his condition. He was shifted to the private hospital after the family members insisted.
In the absence of Nonglang, GTF’s secretary general Ritre Lyngdoh, has continued the indefinite hunger strike. He has made it clear that the protest against the proposed five-star resort on Umiam Lake remains active.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said the GTF has resolved to persist with the hunger strike until their demands are addressed. If the government does not cancel the tourism project and the 60-year lease to Lumpongdeng Island, it would bear responsibility for any deterioration in the health of the protesters.
The secretary general said Nonglang is expected to resume the hunger strike upon recovery, lending further support to the cause which began on April 9.
