The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) has written to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to seek the immediate functionalisation of the Tura branch office of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC).
Calling this a “a long-awaited public institution that remains structurally established yet functionally dormant”, the GSMC said that it is disheartening that years have lapsed since the government directed the MPSC office to be made operational by October 2021.
The MPSC’s centralisation in Shillong poses a “severe disadvantage to aspirants from Garo Hills”, especially those from economically marginalised backgrounds, who would otherwise benefit immensely from a Tura office.
