Four pressure groups from the Selsella area have written to Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Marcuise Marak to bring his attention to incomplete and non-functional Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) projects in the area.
While appreciating the state government’s efforts to ensure that every village has access to piped water under the central government scheme, the groups said that “some villages in our region have yet to receive water despite the launch and reported completion of JJM projects.”
Villages like Amguri, Mandagre, Singgimary, Apalgre, Wakantagre, Nengkalpara, Chondra, Ramjong, Kudaldua, Abima, Singwilgre and Sarbila, among others, continue to experience acute water shortages, the letter said.
In some situations the projects are still incomplete, while in others the records show that the plans are completed but inhabitants still do not have access to water, it added.
The four groups want the PHE Department to check the status of the JJM projects in the aforementioned communities, speed up completion of pending tasks, ensure that projects marked as complete are functioning fully and investigate and resolve any technical or logistical concerns that are interfering with water supply.
