A school in Garo Hills has been without a teacher for more than 15 years, the Pedaldoba regional unit of the Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) has claimed.
The school in question is Bolchu Katongre Government Lower Primary School and the GSMC has written to the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills to look into the matter.
Members of the GSMC visited the school on January 6 after being informed of the situation by the school managing committee.
The head teacher has not attended school since at least 2007 and the assistant teacher, who was appointed around five years ago on a contractual basis, has also not come to the school for a lengthy period of time.
Despite complaints to the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) at Daddengre, no action was taken against the head teacher.
The school is in Tikrikilla block and is meant to serve hundreds of households, whose children are deprived of any education.
