Shillong, Jul 6: The Shillong Municipal Board on Monday informed the Meghalaya High Court that Certificates of Vending (CoV) for eligible vendors of Laitumkhrah, Dhanketi-Malki, Barik, Laban, Red Cross and Lumshatsngi will be carried out this week.
The state in its submission before the division bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, said the CoVs will be distributed on July 9 and July 10.
A total of 133 street vendors were surveyed in Laitumkhrah area between December 2023, to January 2024, out of which 22 vendors were found to be eligible as per the rules. Following a review of claims and objections, an additional 64 vendors were also deemed eligible, resulting in a total of 86 vendors set to receive their CoVs.
According to the submission, 22 vendors will move to the Municipal parking lot at Dhankheti, which spans 2,105 sq.ft., while the remaining 64 vendors will be situated in the Brightwell Bungalow compound, a space of 7,260 sq.ft.
Completion of relocation is anticipated by August 11, 2026, the state said.
During the hearing, Senior Counsel, H.L. Shangreiso and counsel A. Dkhar said they would like to visit the proposed bungalow compound, as it is expected to attain heritage status in the future.
