The State government has taken note and sent an estimate committee and officials to inspect the abandoned residential school in Byndihati and teacher training centre in Umtyra.
This was after the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) inspected the two projects. The residential school had been sanctioned in October 2015 and the building was constructed within 24 months. On the other hand, the training centre was sanctioned in 2016 and the building was constructed.
JNC Information Secretary Mebanteilang Sukhlain informed today that the estimate committee and the East Jaintia Hills district officials recently visited the abandoned projects.
The pressure group has already brought the attention of Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to the projects through a memorandum on September 6. At the time, Dhar had reportedly promised that he would take up the matter.
Sukhlain said they also with Sutnga-Saipung MLA, Santa Mary Shylla, who is also a member of the committee and were urged to be patient and allow the government to find solutions to ensure that the building does not remain abandoned.
The JNC has expressed its gratitude to the state government for taking timely action and commended the concerned department for its efforts.
