The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement has said that the Principal Chief Conservator Forest (PCCF) and the ministry of forest should not entertain any application from the ‘illegal’ settlers at Mahadev Khola.
According to KHNAM, the people settled there have applied to divert the forest land into “something else.”
KHNAM working president Thomas Passah said the party will write to the PCCF and the ministry on the subject and added that the state government should not entertain such applications as it is in violation of the Land Transfer Act and the various state forest laws.
“If the department can, without delay, act against the shops of the indigenous people at 7 Mer and other areas, then how could it allow outsiders to claim ownership over the forest land?” he questioned.
