Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today said his government has nothing to do with the latest political changes in Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) where the UDP-led executive committee headed by Titos Chyne was ousted by the NPP-Congress combine.
Speaking to media persons here today, Sangma who is also the national president of NPP said that the State government never interfered in any of the political affairs of autonomous district councils.
“We have always maintained from the government side that the matters related to the autonomous district councils are their internal matters and normally the State government does not intervene in any of the political situations that are there in any of the councils,” Sangma said.
“They are autonomous bodies and hence even politically they have their own internal dynamics which are very complicated in nature. We have always maintained that we do not intervene in their overall movement,” he added.
The chief minister said there are a lot of things which are not even in the knowledge of the State government including “the different situations that are faced in a day to day basis between the MDCs and the executive committee”.
“Those challenges are always there and it is up to the Chief Executive Member to manage and do things. So I repeat it is an internal matter of the KHADC and normally we do not interfere with its functioning,” he said.
On UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh’s statement expressing displeasure with the latest political episode in KHADC, Sangma said, “Obviously, it is not something that any of us would have expected. We would want it to be resolved in a proper manner but there are complications which are there.”
