A delegation from the Goa Zilla Panchayat Council today met with members of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) while on a study tour.
The delegation met with Chief Executive Member Pyniaid Sing Syiem, among others. Speaking to reporters, Syiem said that the panchayat council came to study the way the district council functions and its powers, etc.
“We had a very fruitful interaction and discussion with the leaders of the Zilla Panchayat Council from Goa’s north district and we exchanged ideas and the way both the institutions function,” he said.
Chairman of the visiting delegation said that such trips are an annual occurrence for them, with zilla members studying local governance models in different states.
“We visit all the autonomous institutions, the zilla panchayat, all the elected bodies and we try to understand the mode of working and governance that they follow. And with this discussion and all the thoughts exchanged, we feel that we are able to improve our governance by taking new ideas from other states. We can suggest to our government what improvements we can do to develop our district and our constituencies,” he said.
