After failing to recover a loan that was provided by him to the former Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), contractor Kubon Sangma has now approached the High Court of Meghalaya to seek its intervention in recovering his dues.
According to the complaint filed, an amount of Rs 80 lakh was taken as a loan by the former CEM, Denang T Sangma, on October 3, 2016 to apparently pay salaries that were due to employees of the GHADC. Denang would later go on to become the Chairman of the GHADC.
“The said amount was asked from me and I obliged and made out a cheque for the amount as a loan, with the money being written out to the Secretary of the council. I have learnt that the money was never used for paying salaries and, more importantly, the money has not been repaid by either the former CEM or the council authorities,” said Kubon.
While Denang was initially included as a party or as a private respondent, after taking advice from the District Council counsel, another petition was filed to include him as one of the parties/private respondents.
The inclusion of Denang was done as the money was taken by the former CEM.
“The money has not been paid despite the passage of almost five years by Denang T Sangma and as such he is answerable to the court on the matter as is necessary,” added the contractor.
