Two persons from North Garo Hills district were arrested for allegedly supporting Pakistan on social media, police said on Saturday.
Police identified them as Silgring D. Sangma of Chorebolbok village and Asbath B. Marak of Chambildam under Bajengdoba Police Station.
As tensions between India and Pakistan were brewing in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the two individuals posted messages in Garo language, filled with religious hatred and provocations against India, while supporting and inciting attacks by Pakistan.
The video that went viral saw these men raising the slogan of “Pakistan Zindabad”.
A written FIR was lodged by the North Garo Hills district administration on May 15 at Bajengdoba Police Station.
Following an investigation, police arrested the duo today under Section 152/197(1) (d) BNS, 2023 for threatening the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India, inciting secession, armed rebellion, and subversive activities.
