The group called Garo Hills Youth Solidarity (GHYS) has claimed that a Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project at Darang Akep that has been marked as complete is nowhere near finished.
“If water does not flow during the rainy season through JJM pipelines and while streams are flooded, it is [sure] that the JJM in Garo Hills is purely a scam,” GHYS president Endick Marak said in a release today.
Marak claimed that there is no platform for tap connection, no water flowing through the taps, not enough taps as per JJM provisions, “manipulated” inspection by the authorities and officers and poor quality of work executed by the contractor. This means that beneficiaries suffer from scarcity of water despite the JJM project, Marak added.
He called on the authorities to conduct a proper inspection and force the contractor to make up for any shortfalls in the execution of the project.
