A futsal tournament-cum-awareness programme on drug abuse was conducted by the Minot Multi-Function Society for the residents of Lumiablot, Nongthymmai on Saturday.
The programme was sponsored by the state government’s YESS Meghalaya initiative and was organised with an objective to make the residents aware of the importance of physical health and the dangerous effects that drugs have on society.
There were 40 male and 26 female participants from the Lumiablot area.
The resource person was Jeremaiah Nongrum, outreach member at Manbha Foundation, who gave an in-depth insight on the dangers and consequences of drug abuse and also dwelt on the various steps that need to be taken to protect a person from coming under the influence of drugs.
After the awareness programme, the final futsal match was held at the Erina Futsal Turf. The futsal matches games began two days prior and games were held in three categories – children’s, women’s and men’s. Each team featured eight players and there were 96 in all across the categories.
Dignitaries who were present during the programme included Rangbah Dong of Lumiablot, F Kharrubon, and Secretary Dong of Lumiablot, B Kharkongor, owners of the Erina Futsal Turf and members of the Minot Multi-Function Society.
