The FKJGP Langpih area unit today has expressed concern over the delay of the district administration of West Khasi Hills to reopen the Langpih market which was closed since the lockdown in March this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement issued today, the FKJGP said that Langpih market is the only market in the area where most of the people came to buy and sell their commodities and agricultural produce.
“Since the closure of this market, many of the people are facing a lot of problems and they were compelled to go to Nonglang and some to Nongstoin to do their trade. Most of the markets in Meghalaya had opened after the government had given them permission but we are surprised that the market at Langpih is still closed,” the FKJGP Langpih unit said.
The organisation said that due to closure of Langpih market, Nepalese of the area opened a new market near the camp of the Assam police every Friday.
“This market keeps on increasing every week and also gets its support from Assam. We fear that local Khasi people will one day lose their business and livelihood,” the FKJGP said.
