The North Khasi Hills district unit of the Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) has decided to take part in a rally against unemployment in Shillong.
The central body of the FKJGP had announced to hold a public rally on October 28 from Motphran to Malki Ground to protest against youth unemployment in the state.
Unit president, Luistar Lyngdoh said its members from the district would attend the rally to push for adopting an employment policy.
According to the pressure group approximately 1.6 lakh youths are unemployed in the state and are not happy with the state government in dealing with it. The group said that the government was wasting public money by appointing numerous consultants from outside Meghalaya with no clear indication of the benefits that these appointments have brought.
The FKJGP is also opposed to contractual posts because the employees are not provided with job security.
