The Nongalbibra circle of the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has alleged that the contractor awarded a project under the central government’s PMGSY rural road scheme has done substandard work on the Rs 23 crore road.
In a letter to the South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the pressure group said that work on the 10.78km road from Nongalbibra Bridge to Darang Boldak began in January 2020 and was completed in January 2022 but the road lasted barely a year, with sections of it worn out and damaged.
This is inconveniencing many villagers, those who live in the area and those who travel on this road from other places, the FKJGP said while asking the DC to take action against the contractor.
