The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya in collaboration with the Meghalaya Model United Nations will hold a two-day “Festival of Democracy – Road to 2023” at the premises of U SoSo Tham auditorium, here beginning tomorrow.
The festival is an initiative of the Meghalaya Electoral Literacy Club to encourage and ignite youth participation in the world’s largest democracy.
CEO FR Kharkongor informed that the festival, which will conclude on January 25, will feature various competitions, carnival games, food stalls and a musical concert by local artists.
A symposium will also be hosted on the second day of the festival at 6 pm where guest speakers representing the ‘Super Six’ will deliberate on various issues about the upcoming assembly elections.
Voter ID cards or educational institution IDs will serve as entry tickets to the festival, he informed. An on-the-spot EPIC registration table for those who want to register, renew or rectify their electoral roll details, he said.
Meanwhile, the 13th National Voters’ Day function will also be held on January 25 in the premises of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly at Khyndailad from 11:30am.
The Chief Secretary, Donald P Wahlang will be the chief guest.
The celebration will commence with the ‘Run for Sure-Democracy Run’, a 10km race that will start at Nongmensong junction at 8:30am followed by a 5km run from Loreto Convent School main gate at 9am and a 1km wheelchair race from Barik Point at 9:30am.
