Shillong, Feb 13: A field day on rapeseed (also known as canola) cultivation was conducted on Thursday at Warima village in South Garo Hills.
Twenty farmers from the locality took part in the initiative to enhance crop productivity and promote integrated farming practices. Bee boxes were distributed to the participating farmers to improve pollination and boost rapeseed yield.
Athokpam Haribhushan, Principal Scientist, congratulated the farmers on the successful cultivation of rapeseed in the area. He lauded their adoption of improved production technologies and stressed the significance of post-rice cropping systems in the North East hill region, highlighting scientific crop management for sustainable agricultural growth.
Rike Chelchak A Sangma, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), spoke on the organic management of rapeseed cultivation. He elaborated on eco-friendly nutrient and pest management practices and discussed the growing scope of organic rapeseed production in the region.
The programme concluded with an interactive session between scientists and farmers.
