ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi today organised a day-long programme on the topic of integrated farming systems (IFS) with special reference to livestock integration.
The training-cum-field visit was held for 18 farmers of the district.
M Mokidul Islam, Principal Scientist, head of the KVK Ri-Bhoi and course coordinator of the programme, spoke about the importance and benefits of IFS in the agricultural sector as it directly improves the livelihood of farmers.
During the session, Moloy Sarmah Baruah of KVK Ri-Bhoi delivered a lecture on ‘Techniques of IFS with special reference to pig and poultry integration’. This was followed by a talk by Saurabh Deori on ‘Commercial pig farming’.
Farmers were taken to the pig and goat farm of ICAR where Gautam Khargharia, veterinary officer of the farm, explained the techniques of scientific rearing of pigs, goats and poultry.
The afternoon session was covered by Meghna Sarmah, whose topic was ‘Scientific cultivation of pea after paddy’. The programme ended with distribution of pea seeds to the farmers in attendance.
