The Meghalaya Retired College Teachers’ Association (MRCTA) expressed its sadness at the demise of Prof DL Warjri, the retired head of the Department of Khasi at St Edmund’s College, Shillong.
Warjri passed away yesterday at his residence. He was 86.
He was remembered as a very successful and student-friendly teacher and also for spearheading teachers’ movements to bring justice and benefits to college teachers.
He was the founder general secretary of the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) and also served as the president of the association later. Warjri was intimately involved in many extracurricular activities, being one of the active members and honorary secretary of the YMCA and many other organisations and thereby earned respect from all, the MRCTA said.
