The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) and District Child Protection Unit, East Khasi Hills District organised an awareness programme on the topics: ‘Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012’ and ‘Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006′, today at the Community Hall Nongkrem village.
The programme was held to mark the Pan India Awareness and Outreach Programme as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Addressing the inaugural programme as the chief guest, Judge of the Meghalaya High Court Justice W. Diengdoh enlightened the gathering about the provisions of POCSO Act, 2012 and also encouraged the participants to sensitize others about the evils of child marriage that is prevalent in the society.
The resource persons were Daisily Thangkhiew, Legal Aid Counsel, DLSA, Shillong, Matti L Warjri, DCPO, District Child Protection Unit, East Khasi Hills District and SI I Kharjana from the Police Department.
The programme was also attended by District and Sessions Judge, N. A. Khan, Officer on Special Duty, MSLSA, T. T. M. Sangma and Daphira Sohtun, Secretary, DLSA, East Khasi Hills District among others.
