Shopkeepers in Ri-Bhoi have been badly affected by the lockdown imposed by the government to tackle the sharp rise of Covid-19 and they are now happy with the recent order of the Deputy Commissioner allowing them to reopen subject to strict protocols.
Up to 20 percent of shops selling non-essential items, such as hardware, electricals and clothing, can now open, with owners breathing a sigh of relief after weeks of severe lockdown conditions. These shops are, as yet, unable to open daily, but even this restriction is not begrudged.
Some Nongpoh shopkeepers, Barister Kharsati, Shibu Dey and Dulai Kalita, extended their gratitude to the district administration for allowing their shops to function on alternate days as this will allow them to earn a little for their families.
