Given the predicted bad weather to hit the district in the coming days, the East Jaintia Hills administration has cautioned the public to take precautions during the period of heavy rain, which is expected to last until September 15.
During very heavy rainfall, the public have been told to seek shelter indoors, avoid electrical conductors, stay away from large bodies of water, stay off elevated areas, stay low if outdoors in case of lightning, avoid open areas, keep windows and doors closed, avoid using landline phones and avoid metal objects.
