East Jaiñtia Hills deputy commissioner, Ethelbert Kharmalki has been transferred as secretary of the Mining and Geology department and additional deputy commissioner, SS Syiemlieh has been assigned to look after the district.
A notification here also said that Dr C Manjunatha is relieved of his functions as secretary Mining and Geology, Forests and Environment departments.
Meanwhile, protests have already sounded in the district. Pressure groups, like the EJNC, JSM, JSU, KSU, FKJGP and HNYF said that transfer is unwarranted as his tenure has not ended.
Kharmalki took over as the district head in September, 2020 which is not acceptable, the groups said, adding, this frequent transfer of officers will weaken and affect the functions of the district.
