The state government today warned of strict action against the use of proxy teachers in public schools.
A longstanding and dubious practice was for a significant number of state government teachers to make private arrangements for proxies to informally take over their jobs. These proxies would receive a share of the teacher’s salary.
Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said that the department is well aware of the practice in state government schools and will crack down on it with regular inspections.
Acknowledging that there may be a few teachers who have lost interest in the profession, he said that it would be better for them to quit and take voluntary retirement and pursue their real interests.
