Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma has informed that the adopted National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks will be launched next week.
Meghalaya had decided to replace textbooks of the Meghalaya Board of School Education with those of NCERT for classes 1 to 10 starting this academic session.
He said the launch which was set on January 16 has been postponed to January 25, due to the President’s visit.
“The NCERT textbooks will be adopted for subjects like English, Maths and Science for this year, since it requires less editing and adapting,” he said, adding, a committee has been formed to look into editing of social science textbooks where local contents need to be added.
“This year we may not be able to completely implement the shift but by next year, adoption of NCERT will be compulsory,” Sangma said.
